Zulu culture is often perceived as cruel or unbending, because of its insistence on principle above feelings. The woman in the picture is a bride, she continued “uDwendwe” (Wedding) alone. The groom whom she was supposed to marry passed away on a Tuesday while the wedding was planned for that weekend, as per custom (because this woman is a wife) the wedding went ahead, along with the funeral. A mistake that most men make, is marry a girlfriend and hope the wife will appear in future and when circumstances demand a wife, the man finds himself suddenly married but without a wife. The deceased chose a wife, there she is pictured, keeping her word to her beloved (uMyeni wakhe) In the Zulu culture, a wife will STAND with her husband, for her husband , and by her husband because she has chosen the path forever. There is an understanding that she marries not the body and not just for the good days, it’s signified by the leather bracelets worn by all Zulu bridesIn Zulu, we say “ulenzile iqiniso”, (she kept true) may the groom rest in peace, we know the type of man he was, by the strength of the woman he chose. I wish to know the words ye “nkondlo” yakhe (the song that Zulu women compose to sing when they leave their homes, to light fires that warm the future and propel the nation. Zulu Uyesabeka ❤️💔 May all men (who seek) find wives, and may the wives rise from within the girlfriends and become. The application of principle to facts, yields a strong nation ruled by law, not sentiment. There are beliefs that we let go with colonialism, that were empowering, one of these was how we honoured principle over feelings. A poignant moment as the Zulu nation grieves the death of its Prime Minister. #PrincipleAsLaw #Jurisprudence #Humanity #Belonging

Beyond this being a truly deep principle of culture and covenant (which I respect and undoubtedly believe is one of the most profound out there), my legal brain is switched on to seek clarity on the legal consequences of this act within the confines of marriage, it’s obligations and consequences… not necessarily from a civil law perspective but from the Zulu cultural perspective as well. What in law says the are married? Proprietal consequences? Legal status of the surviving partner (is she single or widowed) et cetera…

A thought provoking but a nice part of the Zulu culture. Sibiya Ngenkomo abanye bebiya ngamahlahla. You need to write dissertation on this part of the Zulu culture. Dare I add, once she's done marrying her late. Elders of the groom (parents) will sit down and discuss who will look after the late groom's wife and his children . They will select one of the groom's brothers and usually it must be someone trustworthy and capable of supporting the wife's groom emotionally and continue the family legacy.Today, that would sound like a taboo but it worked and there were no issues

Thank you for sharing. 8n Zulu culture, men and women do this when they are about to marry but the bride or groom dies. I have attended a number of weddings where the man was marrying a bride who has passed on before wedding day.

There is beauty in unity, honor in service and dignity in standing up and being counted. Today is the last day and night of voting until 00:00 and as with every daring adventure in this life of mine, I am feeling the energy of the wind beneath my wings. I feel alive, filled with purpose and imbued in an energy that could light up the whole continent. The secret to life is daring greatly and creating the opportunity for the miraculous to happen. Please continue to reshare this call to action and a plea for all graduates of Stellenbosch University to come online 🗳️ and co-create the future with a vote. #SUcomvocationElection #Service #Honor #Dignity #Excellence

Being TRUTHFUL is not a defence for being unwise. A lesson that could have benefited me greatly when I was employed as a manger at Eskom, it was 2007 - 2013 and the ship was beginning to take strain from years of being “indestructible” I was young, highly motivated and ready to apply all the precision and skill I had acquired at the countries Top Management consuting firm, it was a Business Analysts dream job! I understood governance and I wanted to implement frameworks now, I was churning out proposal after proposal for implementing quick win business process re-engineering and cost savings (we had a line item for weekly fresh flower’s delivery 👀 and I saw cuts everywhere 😅😅) I had ALL of the skill needed for the role, but one cannot change a system unless they’d are wise. I said the right things, at the wrong time and to an inappropriate audience. I was a shining star 🌟 and I was so frustrated 😣 It’s not the stone that killed Goliath in the valley of Elah, it was the wisdom that was possessed by David, but because it’s easier to teach stone throwing, the story focussed on the stone. I envision that business schools would incorporate Leadership development in graduate programs, it would serve Africa greatly to have wise, experienced, and skilled leaders. I benefited greatly from the USB Leadership Development Journey module that helped me discover my authentic leadership voice. This is why I have made myself available for Stellenbosch Convocation election 🗳️, not because success is guaranteed, but because I am possible and I am a beneficiary to SU who wishes to serve. If you know a graduate of Stellenbosch University please ask them to check their emails and vote for me. I will post the info on first comment. #SUelections #TagAMatie #LeadershipDevelopment

“Courage is not the absence of fear, it is the triumph over it” My life has been the lesson in the practice of courage, and the doing of what must be done to deliver the envisioned future. This is one of those times. Do you know a graduate of the University of Stellenbosch? or a current student who is on campus. Please tag them, we have a rare opportunity to cast our votes and influence the future and I have been nominated for the convocation seat on the council of one of the most prestigious universities in our country. I am honoured, but most of all. I am proud that we GET to do this, we get to unite and close this month by sending me to do the right thing, and stand true. ONLY graduates 🎓 of the university of Stellenbosch can vote, so please tag anyone you know. I am proud of me for the courage to stand, because this is the time. The future is calling, I am asking Maties across the globe 🌍 to answer the call. Elections over 10 DAYS, from 28 August - 6 September 2023 Comment if you haven’t received the voting link on your email and I can assist. #SUElection #TagAMatie #ReportingForDuty #Masakhiwe

Dear Young Person We ALL start somewhere‼️‼️ the people you see driving big cars and making serious money 💰 most of them started where you refuse to go. My first job was being paid R800 a month to teach Mathematics and Science in a rural school, the other teacher who was hired by the SGB was getting paid 4K and that hurt 😔. But it also taught me something, that’s I am not that teacher 🤷🏾♀️ and I had to stop comparing myself. I lived at my aunts home in rural eSamungu (you can’t even find it on the map 🗺️) and I walked 11km to and from school (right along my students) and sometimes carrying their marked papers. I walked in the sun and I walked in the rain 🌧️ on a dusty gravel road. Today, I charge 35K to speak for 45-60 minutes, my smallest work contract is R3M per annum and I own property and I create employment. When I hire people, I provide free accommodation which is walking distance from our offices because I know the difference that makes. But if I had stayed home back then and refused to be “exploited” I would still be in my rural home town and wishing for a job. I was used by that school and the SGB, and that made me “useful” and being productive attracts more productivity. To get to where you want to go, you must start where you are and sometimes that’s starting from zero, they laughed at us too when we were being used by institutions. But leaving home everyday gave us access to more information that would have never found us in our homes. Sometimes they offer you 3K per month because that’s all that a business can afford to pay you right now, but if you get there and perform at your best, you won’t stay there for long! Don’t take the job if you are not grateful for it (your energy becomes toxic to the workplace) stay home. But if you are going to take a job, then show up at your “A” game and represent yourself well, soon enough, opportunities will start looking for you. The bible says “Do not despise small beginnings, for the Lord rejoices to see the work begin” when I walked those kilometres, the heavens rejoiced because the work of building a president had begun. START your own journey, go out and sell in the sun, share those pamphlets, take that learner-ship, take the leap of faith ❤️ and your God will meet you there and he will multiply. #Masakhiwe This is your country, #WorkSA #opportunities
